Canadian Superheroes Stamps

Superman stamps

Superman stamps

Since the debut of Superman in 1938, it has been obvious that comics and superheroes were made for each other.

Co-created by Canadian Joe Shuster, Superman struck a powerful chord, inspiring a host of competitors.

During World War II, American superheroes were replaced on Canadian news stands by numerous homegrown heroes, including Nelvana and Johnny Canuck.

Following the War, the golden age of comics ended. Canada was left without its own superheroes until the 70's and 80's, when a generation of more nationalistic costumed crusaders emerged, most notably Captain Canuck and the Team of Northguard, Fleur de Lys.
